FOUNDER • AUTHOR • SPEAKER • REINSURANCE EXPERT
Tim Byrd is the Founder and CEO of Warranty-RE and a reinsurance expert with more than three decades of experience helping business owners understand the financial opportunity behind the warranties they offer.
Today, Tim is bringing that experience to established HVAC and roofing companies, helping owners understand how contractor-owned warranty companies can provide a more strategic way to prepare for future claims, protect cash flow, and participate in the financial results of their own warranty programs.
Three Decades of Reinsurance Experience
Tim Byrd has spent more than 30 years working in a highly specialized corner of the business world: warranties and reinsurance.
Tim Byrd began his reinsurance career in 1994, helping automotive dealers structure warranty and service contract programs. Over the next 30+ years, he became a trusted industry advisor, speaker, published contributor, podcast guest, and co-author of three #1 bestselling books.
Today, Tim brings that experience to HVAC and roofing contractors through Warranty-RE, helping established business owners understand how contractor-owned warranty companies can better prepare them for future claims while creating long-term value within their business.
One Conversation Changed the Way Tim Looked at the Home Services Industry
The idea became clear during a conversation with the owner of a large HVAC company.
The contractor was installing approximately 1,500 HVAC systems each year and purchasing a third-party labor warranty for roughly $400 per system.
That’s approximately $600,000 a year being sent to an outside warranty provider.
Tim asked a simple question:
“Are they paying $600,000 a year back to you in claims?”
The answer was no.
For someone who had spent decades working with reinsurance, the opportunity was immediately familiar.
Contractors were already paying to protect themselves against future warranty claims. But many had never been shown that there could be another way to structure that risk.
That conversation helped Tim recognize how much of what he had learned over three decades in automotive reinsurance could be valuable to sophisticated HVAC and roofing business owners.
And it became part of the reason Warranty-RE began bringing contractor-owned warranty strategies to the trades.
For an HVAC or roofing company, keeping that promise can mean sending a technician or crew back months or years after the original job and absorbing the labor expense from today’s operating cash. Tim believes established contractors should understand that there may be a more strategic way to prepare for those obligations.
Tim regularly joins contractors, business owners, and industry leaders to discuss warranties, reinsurance, callbacks, risk, profitability, and what business owners should know before handing their warranty program to someone else.
Tim joins host Rhydon Atzenhoffer for a wide-ranging conversation about contractor-owned warranty programs, reinsurance, business profitability, leadership, and turning warranties from an expense into a long-term business asset.
